The course of flying lessons leading to your PPL(H) consists of flight instruction, so
that the Pilot under training is given the knowledge and competence in flying and Aviation
technique so that he/she can pass
the flight test and all of the
ground examinations to all current regulations. The PPL(H) course is designed to get you
to the required standard with a minimum of 45 flying hours, ten of which should be solo,
plus Ground School (see FAQ). Ground School is very much a part of learning to fly and
students must be prepared to undertake the bookwork involved; subjects covered, for
example include: Navigation, Air Law and the Theory of Flight.
A breakdown of the main course elements are as follows:
CAA Medical Examination
Completion of minimum of 45 hours flight training of which 10 hours should be
solo
Pass 7 multiple choice ground examinations
Pass Radio Telephony oral examination
Pass a Flight Test
We recommend you try one of our Trial Lessons before taking the plunge, this will give
you an insight into helicopter flying and the time flown will count in your log book
toward the minimum 45 flying hours requirement.
