A. There is no minimum age as such, however there is a weight restriction and you may not fly if you weigh more than
17 stone.
Q. Can we bring pets?
A. We strongly suggest you don’t bring pets. Airfields are noisy places so definitely not “pet” friendly and to ensure safety on the airfield is not compromised by pets running lose, pets should be left at home.
Q. What should I wear?
A. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes that you can easily move around in. Friends and family should wrap up warm in cooler weather as airfields are cold, windy places even if the weather seems relatively warm elsewhere.

A. Yes, you will get the chance to take photos from the air, friends and family will be able to take photo’s under supervision on the apron from a safe distance.
Q. What if the weather is bad on the pre-booked day?
A. We ask that you call us before you set out to check if we will be able to fly or not, if for any reason it’s not possible to fly on the pre-booked day, we will arrange another date and time. All flights are subject to weather, aircraft and instructor availability.
Q. Is there anywhere to eat?
A. Leicestershire Aero Club have a nice viewing area and the café serves food.
Q. How long before my flight should I arrive?
A. ½ hour prior to your arranged time should be sufficient.
Q. If I have redeemed my voucher and booked a date within the 12 months validation period but can’t fly due to circumstances beyond my control such as ill health, or the flight is cancelled by Helieagle for weather or technical reasons, do I lose my voucher?
A. No, if every effort has been made to fly but the odds are against you, we’ll fly you as soon as we can after the voucher validity period.

Q. How long does it take to get my PPL(H)
A. You can take as long as you like but we recommend that you do at least one, 1 hour flight per week to start with to maintain good continuity. Once you’ve settled in you may wish to increase the weekly lessons. Bear in mind the pre-flight briefings, possibly some ground school and post flight briefings, so you need to allow at least two hours of your time per lesson.
Q. What does my £210 + VAT per hour buy?
A. You only pay for your flying time per hour or pro-rata the hourly rate if you reduce or extend the lesson, the ground school work briefings are included in the price.
Q. Are there any extra costs?
A. Yes, you will need to buy all the books associated with the course ground school and some essential equipment. The total cost of the items we recommend is approximately £250. Other costs include: Class 2 medical examination, R/T exam, Flight Test. There are other goodies you can buy as you get more involved and like most hobbies, you’re spoilt for choice.
Q. Will I get my PPL(H) as soon as I’ve flown 45 hours including 10 hours solo?
A. The CAA minimum is 45 hours flying of which 10 must be solo but some students need more flying time to reach the required standard.
Q. Can I block book my lessons?
A. You can buy lessons in blocks of 10 hours. A discount 5% is offered. You must complete any block booked lessons with 12 months of purchase.
Q. When should I get my medicals?
A. You must have your medical in place before you fly solo.
Q. Can I go to my GP for my medicals?
A. The CAA publish a list of GP’s giving aviation medical examinations and hopefully we can put you in touch with one near you.
Q. Are there any other qualifications I can add to my PPL(H)?
A. Further ratings can be added to your PPL(H) which you may be interested in as your experience grows. Or you may wish to become a professional helicopter pilot and progress to the CPL(H) – Commercial Pilots Licence Helicopters.
Q. Can I fly other helicopter types with my PPL(H)?
A. Yes, provided you undertake a Type Rating course on the helicopter you want to fly, which must be done at a flying school approved to give Type Ratings on that helicopter type. At Helieagle your PPL(H) is gained on a single engine helicopter, the Robinson R22 and any other types you would like to add to your licence will have to be single engine types. You can get rated on single engine jet powered types as well as piston powered. Helieagle is approved to give type ratings on the following single engine helicopter types:- Robinson R22, R44. |
